Journal-Describe a time when your natural reactions had to take over.  What happened?  Who was involved?  Was it a better outcome than if you had time to think out a reaction?  Explain.  Vocab extension- Complete p.606 1-10 by using your vocabulary list for this week.  Be sure you are thinking and writing antonyms.  Your five to ten predictions or questions will be checked today.  Use these to guide your reading.  Complete the reading of Brothers Are the Same p.360.  You are reading with a purpose to find answers to your questions and clarifications to your predictions.  Answer this after your reading:  "What was the biggest conflict that Temas had to overcome?  Was it the lion, himself, or Medoto.  Support your reasoning with examples from the story.

Students will do the following in my class: Journal-Describe a time when you thought someone was against you, but in the end, they were actually for you.  How did you find this out?  Explain the situation. Describe a time when people's expectation of failure motivated you to succeed.  Explain the situation and how you prevailed.  Vocabulary- Students are to find the POS and definitions of the following.  After that, they are to use each word in a sentence.  1) Careen 2) Doggedness 3) Exotic 4) Heresy 5) Imminent 6) Infallibility 7) Invalid 8) Iridescent   9) Precariously 10) Reiterate We will review both context clues of p.103 and then the methods of characterization on 172 and then begin p.359 Brother's Are The Same.

Vocab words for the week: 1) Accost 2) Destined 3) Fetter  4) Implore  5) Impunity 6) Preclude 7) Repose 8) Subside 9) Termination 10) Virtuoso Be sure to find the POS, definition.  Use each word in a sentence of your creation.  Reading-Log onto Socrative.com  and join Caudill5724  and take Possibility of Evil Quiz.  Be sure to log in with your real name so I can get your results and record them properly.  Journal-Describe your favorite Super Bowl Commercial or regular commercial?  What audience did it appeal to?  What kind of approach did they use to get people interested in their product?  Why is this memorable.

Welcome back!  Journal-How do you form an opinion of people you meet for the first time? Think about the first time you met a new friend.  What traits or qualities caught your attention.  Do you think now that your first impressions were accurate?  Make a list of the traits, qualities, and behavior patterns that normally help you form an opinion about someone you meet for the first time.  Vocab-Copy the following words down and create sentences: 1) Appropriation       N. Today we will: Use five minutes to wrap up our reading and our questions.  Remember, you are to read The Scarlet Ibis p. 592 or Through The Tunnel p.373.  You choose which one.  If you read The Scarlet Ibis, you are to do the Extended Interpretations 6-8 on p.605 and to identify the theme of the story and why you feel it is a logical theme in the story. If you read Through The Tunnel, you are to do Extended Interpretations 6 and 7 and the Literary Analysis on 385. We will get into our reading groups and discuss the stories by discussing the questions and by answering the following question: Based on what I know from the story, if I had to make an artifact box that contained 5 items in it that best represented my character, I'd choose: 1)                                                                  because............ 2)                                                                  because............. 3)                                                                  because............. 4)                                                                  because............. and 5)                                                                  because............. Students in my class will do the following: Periods 1, 2, 5, 6, and 7 will take the exam on Thursday the 18th. Periods 3, 4, 8, and 9 will take the exam on Friday the 19th.  Vocab Review-Students will complete the vocabulary review that will get them ready for their vocabulary test on Friday.  Cask of Amontillado Group Work-All group work must be completed and submitted by the end of the day on Friday or it will be scored as a zero.  With this being said, those groups who are not done, need to make sure the questioner, the vocab finder, the illustrator, and the summarizer's work is completed in turned in as a packet.  Conclude the Non Fiction Unit by Reading The Scarlet Ibis p.592

Students will do the following in my class: Journal-Describe a time that you were like Montressor and took advantage of a situation and got revenge on someone.  How were your feelings like Montressor's?  Explain by using examples from both your life and from the textbook.  Vocab- 1) altercation       2) cajole     3) cantankerous     4) concur     5) condoning     6) oblivious     7) defer     8) gregarious     9) satiate 10) sedentary Get into groups and conclude the group work for Cask of Amontillado p.207.  Remember we need all of the following roles filled and the tasks completed: Vocabulary finder, Illustrator, Summarizer, and Questioner. Begin reviewing for our mid term exam on Lit Terms.
