Good morning, Chieftain Nation:

We are living in an historic time.  In light of the recent events across the state, the nation, and in the world, we want to make sure we are communicating with one another and taking care of one another in Chieftain Nation. As a reminder, school will not be in session through April 5th. All facilities, practices and events are cancelled through that time.  Our first day back to school will be Monday, April 6th.

At BHS, we are committed to working together as a staff and as a community to make sure our students get the best possible education while all school facilities are closed across the state through April 5th. This email has some important information for this period of time. Please read below for these details.

  1. Remote Education:  While we understand that this is certainly a new method for many students in their educational journey, we believe that we can still provide some excellent 21st Century Skills and content through our Remote Education Plan. This plan includes:
    1. Email: All students should log on to Office 365 and check their emails daily. We encourage parents to do so as well. This will be our primary form of communication for the duration of the plan.  Some teachers have Remind groups, as well, and will still use this to communicate if so.
    2. Schoology:  On the high school website, the front page has our Schoology and class code resources.  Please find your courses and join those classes through Schoology. Teachers will also be emailing and sending Remind links for their courses.
    3. Requirements:  Students will be required to complete 10 days of lessons for each course.  Please do so consistently and communicate with your teachers. We will honor the scheduled spring break time for your courses, however, as many families and staff members have previously planned spring break events. If students have issues with access, teachers will make accommodations upon return.
  2. From the Guidance Department:  For students who have not yet met with your counselor, check your email for notifications.  If you have a question about your schedule, please email your Guidance Counselor. Also, some important dates to note:
    1. Seniors:  Please access the Scholarship Webpage to complete all scholarships on deadline.  Please mail your applications to directly to the address indicated. If you need signatures on your application, please send them to us via email.  We can sign electronically or return to you. The BHS Common Form is now due April 6th. We have moved this deadline back to accommodate your schedules.
    2. CCP: CCP letters of intention are now due April 10th.  You can watch the CCP informational video on our website, and complete the verification form.  This will be available during the week of March 30th.
  3. Testing:  State testing is under review at the Ohio Department of Education. We will let you know if the schedule and requirements have changed. We will also send updates we receive regarding CCP and AP testing.
  4. Meals:  If you are in need of food or meals over this period of time, our district and our county are currently working together on a plan. Please stay tuned for further information.

Chieftain Nation is a wonderful place to be.  We definitely have the best students, best staff, and best community here in Bellefontaine. Thank you all for pulling together in this time, and please feel free to email me if you have questions.  My contact is:

Take care of one another. Now is the time to show your Chieftain Heart.  As always, it’s a great day to be a Chieftain.
