Good afternoon, Chieftain Nation -- I hope this email finds you well and still carrying your strong Chieftain Pride. I am sending this longer informational update, as we have had some changes at the state level that have impacted us until the end of the school year. Please read through the entire email as there are many items discussed including graduation, senior shirts, Scholarship Night, prom/after prom, fees, collection of materials, and CCP.

  1. Graduation: As many of you know, and may have seen on the news, the Ohio Department of Education has just issued new guidance regarding graduation activities.  They have asked us not to schedule live graduations or large gatherings even in July.  This has obviously changed our graduation plans.  However, please know that we WILL have a graduation and celebrate the Class of 2020. More details will come this week, as we plan to now hold our event closer to the May 22nd original date.  Please stay tuned for future details. We love our seniors and want to have an appropriate celebration.
  2. Senior Shirts: Many seniors have indicated that they would like to purchase a senior shirt.  Therefore, we are running a second senior shirt drive. You can order your shirts in the cafeteria this Wednesday (April 29th) from 8-12 noon or 4-6 pm.  We have a sign in sheet for sizes. You will need to bring your payment as well. Shirts cost $15.  You can bring cash in an envelope with your name on it or make a check payable to BHS. Shirts will be available for pick up the following Wednesday, May 6th from 8-12 noon or 4-6 pm.
  3. Local Scholarship Night:  Because we cannot plan live gatherings in July, per our state guidance, we must also reschedule our scholarship awards.  We will give you information as that comes to us.  We will notify recipients when we find out (though some entities notify seniors directly).  Please let us know if you have been notified of a scholarship and we will include you in our recognition plan. Ms. O'Rielley is coordinating scholarships and can be reached at: o' Otherwise, please stay tuned for additional information regarding scholarships.
  4. Prom/After Prom:  Regrettably, we have also had to cancel prom and after prom for this school year due to the newest state guidance.
  5. Fees:  Students can pay fees from 12-3 pm on Tuesdays in the main office and 8-12 noon on Wednesdays in the cafeteria.
  6. Collection of materials:  We will be setting up a locker clean-out and materials collection rotation during the first weeks of May. Students will have rotation schedules and we will have limited numbers in the building while cleaning out materials to fulfill social distancing requirements. We will also collect books, uniforms, etc. and will have a rotation to pick up artwork and other items as necessary. We will follow all social distancing guidelines and ask that students in the building wear gloves and masks.  We will also sanitize after each shift to ensure that the building is clean. Our teachers will wait for at least 5 days to inventory items and may contact you the follow week if items still need to be returned.
  7. CCP:  Please encourage students to send in CCP intention forms. We are missing 156 forms. If you have students in your class who are taking CCP next year, they must have these in by May 1. This is a state requirement to be eligible for CCP next year.  You may bring forms to the cafeteria on Wednesdays from 8-12 pm or 4-6 pm.  Please contact us if you are mailing them so we know to look for them.

This year has undoubtedly been a strange one, especially for the Class of 2020.  Please know that we are still hard at work behind the scenes to make sure every student has the best education and opportunities available. I love seeing each and every one of you (though many I "see" virtually) and miss you tremendously. Please do not hesitate to reach out if you need anything.  We will make the best of it for the end of the year and work together to finish with Chieftain Pride.  It is always a great day to  be a Chieftain.

Be well and take care of each other --
