+Ohio Township Association Scholarship

The Ohio Township Association (OTA) was established in 1928 for the purpose of preserving and promoting Ohio's townships.  Today, there are 1,308 townships in Ohio.  As part of its promotion efforts, the OTA began offering scholarships to high school seniors in 2005.  Four $1,500 scholarships in two categories are being offered in 2019.  See below for eligibility requirements.

Student must be a U.S. citizen; reside in an Ohio township; and plan to attend a two or four-year Ohio college or university in the fall of 2020. Students my apply for both scholarships, however, applications and accompanying materials must be submitted in two seperate envelopes.  Students may only be awarded one scholarship.

Two Local Government Achievement scholarships will be awarded and two Academic Achievement scholarships.  

Local Government Achievement-
Students must deomonstrate outstanding citizenship through service and participation in community activities.

Academic Achievement-
Student must have a B average (cumulative) and at least a 22 ACT or 1000 SAT score.

Student must submit:

  • Completed application form found here;
  • Statement of activities, honors and leadership, including school and community activities, and years in which you participated.  Identify leadership positions or awards you received;
  • Copy of high school transcript, including ACT and/or SAT scores;
  • Two letters of recommendation from teachers and/or community leaders;
  • Student must also attend at least one meeting of his or her ‚Äčlocal ‚Äč(the township in which the stuent resides) board of trustees and must submit signatures (see application) of at least two of those officials.
  • A 500-word essay-

 Local Government Achievement: Describe a community project or event you participated in that made an impact on your life.

Academic Achievement:  Describe the importance of local government.

Completed applications must be received by Tuesday, January 28, 2020.  Winners will be contacted by May 1.

Please submit all items above in one envelope by January 28, 2020.
