Welcome back to day 2! Journal-Describe a goal that you have for this year.  It may be one that involves school or one that is outside of it.  Why is this goal important to you?  What are your chances of accomplishing this goal and what are you going to have to do to be sure you accomplish it? Share- Finish up expectations and rules from syllabus Get to know your teacher activity-Choose what things you think are true about your teacher.  The team with the most points win an award.  Get with a partner that you don't know and then interview them about themselves.  Make a list that you can share with the rest of the class.  You may create a collage of things that are symbolic of what you learned.   Share Tech Survey Paragraph writing unit begin

Today students will do the following: Journal Write-Students are to write about a positive that happened over break and a negative and to describe the situations in detail in order to tell why these things were positives and negatives during their time off.  Vocabulary 12-Students are to use each of the following words in a sentence of their creation: 1) Appropriation       N. Money set aside for specific purpose  2) Banished     V To force to go away or to drive out 3) Consequently       ADV As a result of 4) Degraded       ADJ. Fallen into a life of wickedness/ not restrained or controlled 5) Indulgently       ADV In a tolerant manner 6) Potential       ADJ Possible but not yet existing 7) Proverbial       ADJ. Widely spoken of; famous 8) Rapt       ADJ. Deeply delighted 9) Reprehensible       ADJ. Deserving of blame 10) Whim       N. Sudden impulse or notion; fancy Students  then will get into two small groups led by a teacher and will begin the reading of "Gift of The Magi p.151  Key Concepts: Irony (3 types) Prediction Allusion Point of View

Journal-Describe your highs and lows of the weekend in your journal.  Be sure to elaborate as to why you feel the way you do. Vocabulary-Go over the words and you are to create the sentences for this week's words. Literature-Get into groups of two at least in order to complete questions page 100 1-8.  We will be randomly calling on people to share so make sure you do your part. Read Osage Orange Tree p.104

Everyday Edit-Find all ten errors individually and then work together in groups to share. Vocabulary-get into groups of two and share/check your sentences.  Make sure you use nouns as things and adjectives to describe things.  Adverbs describe how things are done.  Lit- Read "Games People Probably Shouldn't Play" p.61 independently Lit-Complete questions 1-5 on p. 61 margin and "Identifying Bias."  Evidence should be used to explain reasoning.

Students will do the following in class today: Journal-High/Low Share Vocabulary-Create sentences tonight for homework with the following words: 1) bravado-   noun A false show of courage or defiance. 2) compassion- noun Deep awareness of the suffering of another coupled with the wish to relieve it. 3) degradation- noun A decline to a lower condition. 4) futile- Adj. Having no useful result 5) impotent- Adj. Powerless; lacking strength or vigor. 6) impoverished- Adj poor 7) perverse- Adj Stubbornly contrary wrong; harmful 8) poignantly- adv. In a profoundly moving manner 9) squalor- noun A filthy & wretched condition 10) stoicism- noun Indifference to pleasure or pain not showing emotion  Go over exams by finding evidence in the books to prove the answers.  Talk about protag, antag, conflicts.
