Joseph Vicario

Joe Vicario is a 1940 graduate of Bellefontaine High School where he lettered two years in football, two in track and three in basketball.  During the 1938 and 1939 seasons the football Chieftains had records of 7-2 and 8-1.  The teams he played on won football, basketball, and track championships
In the day of playing both ways, Vicario was a left guard on offense and inside linebacker on defense for the football team.  The basketball team won two district championships and played in the "sweet sixteen" state tournament for two years.
Former teammate Richard McGarvey lured Vicario to Mt. Victory to teach school and there he taught several subjects and coached baseball and track for nine years, winning a district title.
Vicario, who taught at BHS for 26 years was a football announcer and scorekeeper for basketball for many years.
