John Martin Karibo, a 1925 graduate of BHS, is remembered for the longest kickoff return in Chieftain football history.  Against Galion High School, he returned a kickoff 99 yards for a touchdown. 
Karibo scored a lot of touchdowns during his high school football career and in an exciting 7-6 victory over arch rival Urbana, he intercepted passes, returning one 80 yards for the teams only touchdown, then kicked the extra point for the victory.  He also kicked off.
He went to the University of Notre Dame where as a freshman he was on the squad coached by the legendary Knute Rockne.  After a year at Notre Dame, he transferred to The Ohio State University for a year.
He was an electrician for the New York Central Railroad, retiring after 33 years before taking a similar position in Liberia, West Africa, for eight years.
He was a member of the Professional Golf Association and worked as a golf pro (1935-45) and course superintendent (1970s) at the Bellefontaine Country Club.
 Mr. Karibo's sons, David and John, were also outstanding BHS athletes.  His grandson Chris, is a member of the BHS Hall of Fame.
